7 Best Plant-Based Cheese Shreds

One of the most sought-after items in a plant-based or dairy-free lifestyle is a good cheese! One of these cheesy dreams is the shredded variety. As lovers of nachos, mac and cheese, cheesy casseroles and sandwich melts of all kinds we wanted to share our favorite plant-based cheese shreds. A good plant-based cheese shred is a staple in our refrigerator. We put them on top of salads, add on top of tomato soup, stir into sauces and sprinkle on baked potatoes. We have tried them all. Repeatedly. Here is a list of our favorites!

#7 Daiya Mexican 4 Cheese Blend

This is the OG cheese. When first going plant-based, we were having a hard time giving up cheese. Then a miracle happened. Daiya came onto the market and all of a sudden our cheese dreams came true. We started substituting Daiya cheese for regular cheese in all of our old favorites. Daiya has come a long way since then, improving its recipe and adding lots of options. The Mexican Four Cheese Blend is our favorite for all your melty dishes where you want to spice it up with flavor. They are incredibly good for quesadillas.

#6 Vevan Mozza -Shred

The Mozza Shred from Vevan really is 100% Awesome. This brand has really impressed us with its solid shreds. We love to put them on top of our salads with ranch dressing. This shred is so good even when not melted, so it gets the prestigious salad-approved stamp from us. It’s also great in melted form with a nice mild taste.

#5 Trader Joe’s Shredded Parmesan Cheese Alternative

The consistency of these parmesan cheese shreds is just incredible. It is a great texture, tastes aged, and just like the parmesan we remember. It is so good in a kale Caesar salad that sometimes we go on a kale Caesar binge for days on end and this shred is the star of the show. It is delicious in eggplant parmesan and on top of casseroles to bring it to the next level.

#4 Good Planet – Mozerella Shreds

Good Planet has such an incredible line of shredded cheeses and their mozzarella shreds are our go-to for melting into a creamy pasta sauce and pairing with some pizza sauce on top of a bagel for pizza bagels. These shreds are also incredible just as they are for on top of salads and bowls.

#3 Field Roast Chao – Plant-Based Shreds

Field Roast has been dazzling us for years with its plant-based sausages and meats. Their Chao cheese is really next level when it comes to quality. Their cheese seems a little bit fancy with bold flavor and a “company is coming” upscale taste. These shreds you can eat right out of the bag or melt into your favorite dips for a special occasion.

These shreds do cheddar justice. It is so dang exciting to have a cheddar shred that you can depend on. These are shreds that we eat out of the bag while making dinner trying to stop because they are needed for the dish. They really do taste like the cheddar of childhood. They are wonderful melted for nachos and as a topping on baked potatoes.
